How many boxes of flooring do I need?
Add the measured areas using the same unit. Multiply by 1 plus your chosen allowance divided by 100. Divide by the supplier coverage per box, then round up to a whole number. The calculator uses exact decimal arithmetic for the box decision.
Worked example: 100 square feet
Rooms of 80 and 20 square feet total 100. A chosen 10% allowance makes the target 110. At 22 square feet per box, five boxes cover exactly 110. At 49.99 per box, the material subtotal is 249.95 in the same currency you entered.
Allowance and box rounding are different
The allowance increases your target before rounding. Whole-box rounding may add more coverage. Purchased coverage minus measured area is not a prediction of usable leftovers: cuts, layout and damaged pieces can consume material.
Before putting the result in a quote
- Confirm the product and coverage on the actual pack.
- Check measurements, layout and the allowance with your supplier or installer.
- Separate flooring from underlay, adhesive, trims, labour, delivery and tax.
- Use separate calculations for different products or pack sizes.
This calculator does not optimize cuts, check product suitability or estimate installation work. A blank price means cost is unknown, not zero. Blank optional areas are omitted; the combined entered area must be positive.
